Each local Citizens Advice is a registered charity with its own board of trustees who are collectively responsible for the governance of the organisation as a team.
This includes setting strategic direction, ensuring that resources are used appropriately and effectively, making sure the charity is fulfilling its purpose and ensuring compliance with the relevant laws and regulations.
Welcome from our Interim CEO, Jannine
Thank you for your interest in supporting Citizens Advice Bridgend as a Trustee.
We are seeking to strengthen our Board to ensure we continue delivering on our mission, values, aims and objectives in what are increasingly challenging times. Our clients are facing unprecedented pressures as a result of the cost-of-living crisis. In response, we continue to develop our services by listening carefully to their experiences, providing practical advice and support to help resolve their problems, and working with partners, stakeholders and funders to influence positive change in the policies and practices that affect our local communities.
As CEO, I have the privilege of working alongside a dedicated team of trustees, paid staff and volunteer advisers who share a deep commitment to our purpose. I work closely with the Board of Trustees to ensure our strategic objectives are clearly connected to the services we deliver, and that our vision and values are reflected in a healthy, positive and supportive organisational culture.
This role may be right for you if you enjoy contributing to strategic discussions and decision-making, are passionate about our purpose and values, and are motivated to help shape a vibrant, responsive service during challenging times for the people we support.
I look forward to welcoming you to our organisation.
Welcome from our Chair, Peter
Thank you for your interest in becoming a Trustee of Citizens Advice Bridgend.
It is a privilege to serve as Chair of an organisation that supports people through some of the most challenging periods of their lives. Being part of such a committed, inspiring and passionate team is both rewarding and humbling.
As trustees, our role is to act as a critical friend to the senior leadership team — providing constructive challenge, oversight and support. We draw on our individual and collective skills, experience and personal qualities to ensure strong governance and to drive the successful delivery of our strategy.
Since joining the Board in 2000, I have served as Chair during two separate periods, supporting the organisation through important stages of its development. Serving as a trustee has been a rewarding, interesting, and worth-while experience, allowing me not only to give back to the community but also to strengthen and apply my skills and experience in a meaningful way.
Our Board members come from a range of professional and personal backgrounds, bringing diverse skills and viewpoints that enrich our discussions. We welcome different perspectives and approach our conversations in a positive, respectful and constructive manner, always guided by our values.
Whether you are an experienced trustee or considering your first board role, we would be delighted to hear from you.
You don’t need specific qualifications or experience to be a trustee. For example, you may be one of the following:
- Retired and looking to do something meaningful with your time, or
- Working full or part time and looking to ‘put something back,’ or
- Working flexibly that allows you to volunteer at times to suit you, or
- Actively seeking work because you feel you have something to offer
- Seeking leadership experience that is not readily available to you at work eg get a taste of being a non exec director
